ComputIT is carrying out simulation and analysis of water based mitigation systems
- for design purposes, i.e. nozzle arrangements, choice of type of nozzles, choice of alternative solutions, performance of different systems, etc
- as part of risk analysis
- to demonstrate consequences of fires in general
- others
Fire mitigation by water systems is simulated transient and 3D by KFX® simultaneously with simulation of the fire development
itself, meaning that the interaction between fire and water droplets is in detail taken into account. All kinds of systems
ranging from single nozzles to fire monitors can be treated. This includes for instance deluge systems, sprinkler systems,
water curtains, and water mist system.
The simulations include the effect from water droplets on combustion, cooling effect on equipment, radiation screening, mixing of water droplets in hydrocarbon pools etc.
As for general fire simulations, the simulations are carried out in complex geometries or in enclosed space, and with external wind and/or natural or mechanical ventilation systems impacting the fire development.
The transient and non-uniform heating of equipment and load carrying structures with and without water systems can also be simulated, including dynamic mechanical response, deformation and global collapse of structures. See Structural Fire Response Analysis.
